You may have heard that central banks are starting to create CBDC's, Central Bank Digital Currencies.

In May 2020, 35 countries were exploring this option.

By March 2022, 87 countries were actively researching or piloting CBDCs.

By the time this article was written in June 2024, 134 countries were researching, developing, piloting, or launching CBDCs. www.atlanticcouncil.org/cbdctracker/

CBDCs are similar to the electronic money you see in your online bank account, but they are digital and programmable, and 100% controlled by central banks.

A key difference with CBDCs is central banks would have absolute control...
